Overview
Green Layers House is a multi-storey family home completed by Kimbanjang Interior in Ho Chi Minh City. Designed for a multigenerational family, the project weaves together exposed brick, warm timber, and cascading greenery across every floor — from the open ground-level living space to the rooftop garden terrace. Nature is not an afterthought here; it is the architecture.
A dramatic angled timber ceiling anchors the double-height ground floor, where the living room, dining area, and kitchen flow seamlessly into a lush front garden. Upstairs, bedrooms and private spaces open onto planted balconies and a generous sky terrace — giving every member of the family their own connection to the outdoors.
Concept & Idea
The concept behind Green Layers House was to treat greenery as a structural element — not decoration. Rather than adding plants to a finished interior, the design was built around voids, shelves, and open-air cascades that allow vegetation to grow vertically through the house. Pothos vines trail down exposed brick walls, trees rise through light wells, and rooftop gardens spill over balustrades into the street facade.
Exposed red brick serves as the unifying material language throughout — warm, textural, and unapologetically honest. It contrasts with the clean grey plaster walls and polished stone floors of the living areas, creating a dialogue between rawness and refinement. Solid teak and hardwood furniture grounds each room in warmth without competing with the natural environment outside.
The section drawings reveal the true ambition of the project: a cascading staircase system that doubles as a vertical garden path, connecting all four floors through a continuous green spine. The terrace at the top — open to the sky and filled with full-grown trees — transforms the rooftop from dead space into the most alive room in the house.
